• When we write or express derived quantity in terms of fundamental quantities we get some different power of different fundamental quantities.The power of fundamental quantities that's enters into expression is called the dimensions of the quantity.

Uses of dimensions

1.  Homogeneity of dimensions in an equation.

Limitation 

•   Dimensions does not depends upon magnitude.

2.Conversions of units:-

3,Deducing relations among the physical quantities.

Limitation

• Its applicable when we know on which quantity the quantity we have to obtain is dependent.

 Order of magnitude

= a*10^b    

             1≤ a≤ 10

            here b is the order of magnde.
